Passports

The passport is a travel and identity document issued to Italian citizens who are permanently resident within the jurisdiction of this Consulate General (the districts of Mecca, Bahah, Asir, Jaizan, Najran, Medina, the Northern Region and Qurayyat) and who are duly registered in the consular records, with their personal and civil status details kept up to date.

Passports may also be issued to Italian nationals who are not resident within this consular jurisdiction. In such cases, however, processing times are longer, as it is necessary to obtain the authorization or clearance (delega or nulla osta) from the territorially competent office (the Police Headquarters (Questura) for residents in Italy, or another office within the diplomatic/consular network for residents abroad).

Passports have different validity periods depending on the holder’s age:

  • three years for minors aged 0 to 3;
  • five years for minors aged 3 to 18;
  • ten years for adults.
