In order to make access to consular services increasingly easier and, in particular, to facilitate obtaining an appointment for the issuance of passports and CIE identity cards, we would like to inform our users of the improvements introduced to the procedures currently in place. These measures are intended to facilitate access for more vulnerable categories and to give priority to cases of documented urgency.
SILVER LINE
For applicants over 65 years of age, it is not mandatory to use the official Prenot@Mi online system to request an appointment. The request may instead be made by sending an email to anagrafe.gedda@esteri.it, with the subject line “SILVER LINE APPOINTMENT REQUEST” and attaching a copy of the applicant’s identity document.
Applicants will need to wait for a further reply from the Passport Office indicating the appointment date. This reply will be sent once the request has been processed by the Office.
If the applicant is unable to send an email, they may submit their passport application in person at the Consulate General from Sunday to Thursday, between 12:00 and 13:30.
N.B. In the latter case, the appointment will NOT be issued on the same day. The applicant will need to provide their contact details (email address and mobile phone number), which the Passport Office will use to inform them of the subsequent date on which they must appear at the Consulate for passport issuance.
PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
For persons with disabilities, it is not mandatory to use the official Prenot@Mi online system to request an appointment. The request may instead be made by sending an email to anagrafe.gedda@esteri.it, with the subject line “SPECIAL APPOINTMENT REQUEST – DISABILITY”, attaching a copy of the applicant’s identity document and appropriate documentation certifying the disability.

MINOR CHILDREN
If a parent has obtained an appointment for passport issuance through the Prenot@Mi system and also wishes to renew the passports of any minor children, they must NOT submit a “multiple” appointment request. Instead, the minor children may be included in the single appointment by indicating their details in the system’s notes field.
N.B. The passport can only be issued to the minor child if their birth has previously been reported to this Consulate General by submitting the relevant birth certificate and receiving confirmation that the registration procedure has been completed.
Under no circumstances can a passport be issued if the birth certificate has not been previously submitted, or if it is submitted at the same time as the passport application.
CASES OF URGENCY
Exceptionally, and only in cases of documented urgency, where it has been verified that it is impossible to obtain an appointment through the official Prenot@Mi portal, this Consulate General may grant an extraordinary appointment.
Requests must be submitted exclusively by the applicant concerned, by email to anagrafe.gedda@esteri.it, with the subject line “SPECIAL APPOINTMENT REQUEST – DOCUMENTED URGENCY”.
Requests may only be considered in the following cases:
Health or family-care reasons: the appointment request email must include documentation issued by the competent public authorities or by hospitals or healthcare facilities certifying the health reasons stated. If the urgency is justified by the need to assist a family member, this need must be explicitly indicated in the medical certificate. Any documentation issued by non-Italian entities or institutions must be translated into Italian. The applicant must also provide airline tickets or other proof of travel.
Work-related reasons: requests must be accompanied by appropriate documentation certifying the circumstances stated. If a letter is submitted, it must explain the reasons for the request and be signed by a person holding a managerial position, including the signatory’s full name, position and telephone number, and must be issued on the employer’s official letterhead. In this case as well, the applicant must provide the relevant airline tickets or other valid proof of travel.
Study-related reasons: if the applicant has been awarded a scholarship, they must submit documentation proving the award, together with a letter from the university. If the university is located outside Italy, the letter must be accompanied by an Italian translation.
