How the CIE is delivered

The document is not issued on the spot on the day of the appointment. The CIE is produced by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato and subsequently sent by registered mail, at the applicant’s expense, through Poste Italiane, to the residential address (or other delivery address) indicated by the applicant. The applicant will be able to track the shipment independently online using the tracking number.

The Consulate General is not responsible for any delivery issues. For any problems concerning the shipment, applicants must contact Poste Italiane directly.

IMPORTANT: The responsibility of the Consulate General ends on the day of the appointment, when the CIE application is submitted to the relevant authorities in Italy. Any subsequent enquiries concerning the application or its delivery will not be answered by the Consulate General and must instead be addressed to the dedicated email address of the Ministry of the Interior: cie.cittadini@interno.it.
