The Week of the Italian Language in the World takes place every year during the third week of October. Organized by the diplomatic and consular network and the Italian Cultural Institutes, in collaboration with our main partners in the promotion of the Italian language (the Ministry of Culture – MiC, the Ministry of Education and Merit – MIM, the Ministry of University and Research – MUR, CePeLL, the Government of the Swiss Confederation, the Accademia della Crusca, CGIE, the Italian-Language Radio and Television Community, the Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute, RAI Italia, and the Società Dante Alighieri), the Week has gradually become the most important worldwide event dedicated to the Italian language. Since its establishment in 2001, this annual event has received the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic.

Each edition of the Week is dedicated to a different theme, which serves as the guiding thread for a rich programme of conferences, exhibitions, and meetings.

The title of the 26th edition (19–25 October 2026) is: “A Brilliant Language: Conceiving, Designing and Creating in Italian.”

This theme aims to highlight the strategic link between culture and Italy’s economic growth, with the Italian language and the Italian-speaking world serving as key instruments in this regard. Italian, a “brilliant” language with a long and rich history and tradition, showcases the best of Italian expertise and creativity to the world, spanning technology, science, engineering, design, fashion, gastronomy, literature, art, and history. In doing so, it helps shape a dynamic, forward-looking image of Italy.
