The catamaran \"Spirito di Stella\" has arrived in Jeddah, a vessel conducted by a crew made up entirely \r\nof veterans of the Italian armed forces disabled as a result of traumas suffered during active service \r\nand which, in the wake of the round-the-world trip carried out by the training ship Amerigo Vespucci, \r\nwill be anchored for approximately two weeks at the Jeddah Yachting Club & Marina.<\/span><\/pre>\n
The initiative, called \"Wheels on Waves\" (WoW), is the result of an idea consolidated since 2003 by the\r\n \"Spirito di Stella\" association, sponsored by the Italian Ministry of Defense and supported by four \r\nother ministries (Family and Disability, Made in Italy, Tourism and Sport and Youth) which has the aim of demonstrating \r\nthat there are no barriers to people's disabilities, and that every activity, even the most unthinkable, such as driving \r\na catamaran sailing in the middle of the sea can be done by anyone, without distinction of gender, race or disability. \r\nThe project's elements of inspiration are full inclusiveness and freedom, with a view to the essential principle belonging\r\n to the Italian Armed Forces that no one must be left behind or abandoned. The boat, completely designed and built to be \r\noperated by disabled people, does not pose any limits, and is made completely available to the local population of the port \r\nvisited to give any disabled person the opportunity to experience that feeling of freedom that only a boat of this kind \r\npushed by the wind in the middle of the sea is capable of giving. Everyone will express their potential by effectively \r\nbecoming an integral part of a team that needs every element to be able to sail the sea.<\/span><\/pre>\n
