Once registered in the <strong data-start=\"255\" data-end=\"280\">Register of Residents<\/strong>, the foreign citizen may initiate the procedure for recognition of citizenship <em data-start=\"360\" data-end=\"376\">iure sanguinis<\/em> (the duration of which is established by law and is <strong data-start=\"429\" data-end=\"450\">180 days in total<\/strong>), by submitting the documentation specified in <strong data-start=\"498\" data-end=\"522\">Circular K.28.1\/1991<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"525\" data-end=\"676\">The applicant may not appoint a legal representative or have another person act on their behalf; <strong data-start=\"622\" data-end=\"675\">the applicant must be physically present in Italy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"678\" data-end=\"1069\">The request for issuance of the <strong data-start=\"710\" data-end=\"760\">\u201cNo Renunciation\/Non-Renunciation\u201d Certificate<\/strong> is submitted directly by the Italian municipality to the Consular Office, <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"886\">exclusively via PEC (certified electronic mail)<\/strong>. The Consular Office\u2019s response is sent to the municipality, <strong data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"972\">not to the applicant<\/strong>, and is always sent exclusively via PEC, provided that the request has been submitted correctly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1341\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Applicants may not contact the Consular Office directly regarding applications handled by municipalities or other Consular Offices, as the Consular Office has no information concerning the progress of such applications beyond matters falling within its own jurisdiction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If the applicant has decided to establish their residence in Italy, the authorities of the Italian municipality are responsible for the recognition of Italian citizenship.
