{"id":3712,"date":"2025-08-21T10:37:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T07:37:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consgedda.esteri.it\/?page_id=3712"},"modified":"2026-08-17T18:00:17","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T15:00:17","slug":"recognition-of-italian-citizenship-under-special-legislation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consgedda.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-straniero\/cittadinanza\/recognition-of-italian-citizenship-under-special-legislation\/","title":{"rendered":"Recognition of Italian Citizenship under Special Legislation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"229\">Law No. 379 of 14 December 2000 provides for the recognition of Italian citizenship for persons born and residing in the territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and their descendants who meet the necessary requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"231\" data-end=\"327\"><strong data-start=\"231\" data-end=\"327\">The deadline for submitting applications under Law No. 379\/2000 expired on 19 December 2010.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"329\" data-end=\"536\">Law No. 124 of 8 March 2006 provides for the recognition of Italian citizenship for nationals who lost their citizenship as a result of residing between 1940 and 1947 in Istria, Rijeka (Fiume), and Dalmatia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"538\" data-end=\"983\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The recognition of Italian citizenship pursuant to special laws constitutes <strong data-start=\"614\" data-end=\"662\">acquisition of citizenship by benefit of law<\/strong>. Therefore, a parent who has acquired citizenship in this manner cannot make the declaration of intent to acquire citizenship on behalf of a minor child provided for under <strong data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"885\">Article 4, paragraph 1-bis, of Law No. 91\/1992<\/strong>, because the parent whose citizenship has been recognized is <strong data-start=\"947\" data-end=\"982\">not an Italian citizen by birth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Law No. 379 of 14 December 2000 provides for the recognition of Italian citizenship for persons born and residing in the territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire and their descendants who meet the necessary requirements.
