{"id":3277,"date":"2026-08-12T13:08:22","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T10:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/consgedda.esteri.it\/?page_id=3277"},"modified":"2026-08-12T13:09:56","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T10:09:56","slug":"consent-for-the-issuance-of-passports-to-minor-children","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/consgedda.esteri.it\/en\/servizi-consolari-e-visti\/servizi-per-il-cittadino-italiano\/passaporti-e-carte-didentita\/consent-for-the-issuance-of-passports-to-minor-children\/","title":{"rendered":"Consent for the Issuance of Passports to Minor Children"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"61\" data-end=\"341\"><strong data-start=\"61\" data-end=\"341\">Italian nationals who are parents of minor children are hereby informed that, as of 14 June 2023, it is no longer necessary to submit the other parent\u2019s consent for the issuance of their own identity and travel documents (passport and CIE), pursuant to Decree-Law No. 69\/2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"343\" data-end=\"658\">Specifically, the amended Article 3-bis of Law No. 1185\/1967 provides that, where there is a concrete and present risk that, as a result of relocation abroad, a parent may evade the fulfilment of their obligations towards their children, the other parent may request that the issuance of the document be prohibited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"950\">The application may be submitted to the competent court: the ordinary court (<em data-start=\"737\" data-end=\"758\">Tribunale ordinario<\/em>) in whose jurisdiction the minor has their habitual residence or, if the minor resides abroad, the court in whose district the municipality where the minor is registered with AIRE is located.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1179\"><strong data-start=\"952\" data-end=\"1179\">For the issuance of identity and travel documents (passport and CIE) to minor children, however, the requirement for the signed consent of both parents, or of the person exercising parental responsibility, remains in force.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-start=\"1181\" data-end=\"1249\">Consent may be provided in writing in one of the following ways:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"2000\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-section-id=\"1no4a9s\" data-start=\"1251\" data-end=\"1705\">In person at this Consulate General, when submitting the passport application (please note that the person giving consent must present a valid identity document, both the original and a simple photocopy). Consent may also be given at another time if one of the two parents is unable to attend on the day of the appointment. In this case, it is necessary to arrange by email with the Passport Office the date and time for appearing at the Consulate;<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\" data-section-id=\"19ehxws\" data-start=\"1706\" data-end=\"1889\">In person at any other Italian first-category Consular Office and at certain authorized Italian Honorary Consular Offices abroad, or at Italian Police Headquarters (<em data-start=\"1877\" data-end=\"1887\">Questure<\/em>);<\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"13xloc8\" data-start=\"1890\" data-end=\"2000\" data-is-last-node=\"\">Italian and European Union citizens may provide their consent by completing and signing a specific form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Italian nationals who are parents of minor children are hereby informed that, as of 14 June 2023, it is no longer necessary to submit the other parent\u2019s consent for the issuance of their own identity and travel documents (passport and CIE), pursuant to Decree-Law No. 69\/2023.
