Relations between Italy and Saudi Arabia have significantly strengthened in recent years, consolidating across the political, economic, commercial, cultural and institutional spheres. Bilateral dialogue has steadily intensified through frequent high-level contacts and expanding cooperation in a wide range of areas of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
At the political level, Italy and Saudi Arabia share the objective of contributing to the stability of the Middle East by supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the region’s major crises and promoting dialogue in accordance with international law and within the framework of the United Nations. Cooperation between the two countries also extends to regional security, energy security and the strengthening of dialogue between Europe and the Gulf.<\/p>\n
A particularly significant milestone in the development of bilateral relations was the visit of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to AlUla and Jeddah in January 2025, during which Italy and Saudi Arabia elevated their bilateral relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership. The visit reaffirmed the two Governments’ shared commitment to further strengthening political, economic and institutional cooperation through a structured and long-term dialogue.<\/p>\n
Italy regards Saudi Arabia as an increasingly important partner in the Gulf region and follows with great interest the Kingdom’s economic transformation under the “Vision 2030” strategy. This programme aims to diversify the Saudi economy by developing new productive sectors, strengthening the private sector, and promoting innovation, sustainability, culture, tourism and infrastructure, thereby creating new opportunities for international cooperation.<\/p>\n
Within the framework of Vision 2030, the Kingdom continues to implement major urban, infrastructure and tourism development projects, including NEOM, The Red Sea, AMAALA, Diriyah and Qiddiya, which represent some of the country’s flagship transformation initiatives.
